Before Freaky Friday lands on the small screen August 10, get a tease of the Disney Channel movie musical in the performance below. Broadway favorite Heidi Blickenstaff and Cozi Zuehlsdorff performed the number "At Last It's Me" on Good Morning America August 6.
Blickenstaff (who reprises her performance from the stage musical's world premiere) and Zuehlsdorff star as Katherine and Ellie, a mother-daughter pair who spend a day in each other's shoes.
The TV adaptation is based on the Tom Kitt-Brian Yorkey stage musical, which debuted in October 2016 at Virginia's Signature Theatre (the show is based on Mary Rodgers' 1972 novel and the various screen adaptations that followed). The Disney Theatrical Productions project subsequently played La Jolla Playhouse, Cleveland Playhouse, and Houston's Alley Theatre.
The Steve Carr-helmed movie also features a score by David Lawrence, plus a screenplay penned by the musical's book writer, Bridget Carpenter.
The comedy will air at 8 PM August 10 on Disney Channel, and will also be available earlier (12:01 AM PT) on DisneyNOW and 12:01 AM ET/PT on Disney Channel VOD.
The new trailer showcases the scale of the production design, as well as a first listen to the power ballad "Waiting on a Wish," one of the new original songs by Pasek and Paul.
