Video Watch: Dreamgirls Star Jennifer Holliday Sings Acoustic, A Cappella 'I Am Changing'

The iconic Tony winner did not let mic troubles keep her down at a recent performance on a Vacaya LGBTQ+ cruise.

Tony-winning original Broadway Dreamgirls star Jennifer Holliday is not going, even if her mic goes out. When sound issues befell a recent performance of "I Am Changing" from the Henry Krieger-Tom Eyen score aboard an LGBTQ+ Vacaya cruise, Holliday waved the band out and let the show go on by finishing the song unaccompanied and unamplified. When you've got a rafter-raising voice like Holliday, that's no problem.

See the memorable moment, given to a packed theatre full of fans, in the video below.

Holliday won a 1982 Tony Award creating the role of Effie White in Dreamgirls, making both "I Am Changing" and "And I Am Telling You (I'm Not Going)" into bonafide Broadway classics. She's since returned to Broadway in GreaseThe Color Purple, and Chicago.

Vacaya Vacations organizes cruises for the entire LGTBQIA+ community and their straight-ally friends. Those interested in Broadway-themed cruises can also visit Playbill Travel.
