Video Watch Brandy Norwood Discuss Returning to Broadway’s Chicago With a New Perspective “I feel like I can play a little more because it’s in my body,” says the Grammy winner.

Grammy winner Brandy Norwood returned to the Broadway production of Chicago August 17 at the Ambassador Theatre, where the R&B singer is set to play a two-week engagement as Roxie Hart. Take a look above as she chats with Playbill about being a part of the iconic American musical.

“I do feel more grounded in the role,” says Norwood, who first played Roxie on Broadway in 2015 before reprising her performance in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. “I feel like I can play a little more because it’s in my body. It’s in spirit; it’s in my mind.”

This isn’t Norwood’s first classic musical theatre role; the recording artist is known to many theatre fans for her performance in the 1997 TV adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. And she doesn’t want the list to end there, either. Watch as she reveals which role she’s been bugging producer Barry Weissler about—and offers a quick taste.

Norwood will take center stage in Chicago through August 31. The current cast also includes Lana Gordon as Velma Kelly, Tony nominee Tom Hewitt as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Matron “Mama” Morton, and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
