Virginia Symphony Musicians Get Raise in New Contract
The musicians of the Norfolk-based Virginia Symphony will see their salaries increase 23 percent over four years, reports the Daily Press of the Tidewater region of the state.
The new agreement was negotiated by musicians and managers and ratified by the players on August 28; it stipulates that pay for the orchestra's 54 core players will rise from $25,000 to $31,000 by the end of the four-year contract. It also clarifies both paid and unpaid leave and offers more daytime rehearsals. Pension and health insurance benefits have not been affected, according to the paper.
