Long Island City's Theatre East has named Tim Blake Nelson the recipient of its 2025 Laurette Taylor Award, which will be presented at a gala evening January 20 at the Court Square Theater.
Peggy Gormley will present Nelson with the award. The event, which starts at 7 PM, will also include tributes, cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and entertainment as well as a video tribute from Michael Stuhlbarg.
“Nelson's contributions consistently remind us of the power of storytelling to illuminate our shared struggles and triumphs,” said Judson Jones, co-founder and artistic director of Theatre East, in a statement.
The Laurette Taylor Award takes its name from the pioneer of acting whose stage work influenced generations of artists. Honoring industry members who have made vital contributions, on the stage or off, past recipients include Tom Oppenheim and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, Dominic Chianese, Elizabeth Parrish, and Richard Mawe.
Nelson has been seen in such films as O Brother, Where Art Thou?; The Ballad of Buster Scruggs; Old Henry; and Leaves of Grass, the latter of which he also wrote and directed. As a playwright, his works also include Eye of God, The Grey Zone, and Socrates. He has also directed O, The Grey Zone, Anesthesia, and Eye of God.
Nelson has been seen Off-Broadway in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, an oak tree, The Beard of Avon, Troilus and Cressida, An Imaginary Life, Mad Forest, and Innocent’s Crusade.
