Based on the live television broadcasts of such stars as Jackie Gleason, Milton Berle and Jack Benny, The Jack Monty Show, a one-act play by Leo Benvenuti, Gus Buktenica, John Riggi, Mark Roberts, Steve Rudnick & David Wendelman, will open Jan. 16 at the Egyptian Arena Theatre for a five-week run to Feb. 20.
The play is set in 1962 at a studio taping of an old-style variety show typical of the Golden Age of television. The star of the show, Jack Monty, will introduce the audience to a bevy of guests, including the Babe Tyler Dancers, Poopy the Italian Mouse, and the Humming Cowboy.
Produced by Stefanie Ziev and directed by Rudnick (whose film writing credits with his partner Benvenuti include "The Santa Clause" and "Space Jam"), The Jack Monty Show features Hilary Black, Buktenica, Greg Glienna, William Holmes, Brenda Matthews, Johanna McKay, Tracy Pulliam, Riggi, Roberts, Robin Roth, Georgia Simon, Josie Walsh and Wendelman.
The theatre is located at 1625 N. Las Palmas. Call (323) 692-9430 for information.
