News Shrek the Musical to Shutter at London's Drury Lane; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Follow Shrek the Musical will shutter at London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane Feb. 24, 2013, after a 20-month run, and will be followed by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, originally slated for the London Palladium but now to begin performances at Drury Lane May 18, prior to an official opening in June.

In a press statement, Bill Damaschke, chief creative officer for DreamWorks Animation and co-producer of Shrek the Musical, revealed plans to tour Shrek in the UK in 2014, and commented, "When we moved in to Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in March 2011 we knew that it would be the perfect home for Shrek The Musical and so it has proved to be. Joining an illustrious list of new musicals that have played this venue is a source of pride for me personally, and for the whole transatlantic team that works on the show every day. Of course it is not without sadness that we have decided to leave next year but it is some consolation that Sam Mendes and Caro Newling, our producing partners at Neal Street Productions, will retain the lease of this remarkable building." Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, based on the Roald Dahl story of the same name, will begin performances at Drury Lane May 18, prior to an official opening at a date to be announced in June. Produced by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, Neal Street Productions and Kevin McCormick, it is directed by Sam Mendes, with a book by David Greig and new songs from Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Designs are by Mark Thompson, with choreography by Peter Darling, orchestrations by Doug Besterman, musical direction by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting design by Paul Pyant, sound design by Paul Arditti and video and projection design by Jon Driscoll.
