Casting has been revealed for the upcoming encore run of Tim Price's Nye at London's National, set to begin July 3 in the Olivier Theatre ahead of a July 10 opening night. The London run will continue through August 16, to be followed by a bow at Cardiff's Wales Millennium Centre August 22-30. Rufus Norris is again directing after staging the play's 2024 world premiere.
Michael Sheen will reprise his performance as Aneurin "Nye" Bevan in the work charting the creation of Britain's National Health Service. Described as an "epic Welsh fantasia," the work sees Nye on his deathbed revisiting the events of his life, from a childhood mining underground to fights with Winston Churchill.
Also returning from that original run will be Remy Beasley as Gwen Davies, Matthew Bulgo as Mr. Orchard, Ross Foley as Clerk, Jon Furlong as Herbert Morrison, Daniel Hawksford as Alun Jones and Neil, Nicholas Khan as Neville Chamberlain and Doctor Frankel, Stephanie Jacob as Clement Atlee, Rebecca Killick as Lucy Pritchard, Kezrena James as Arianwen and Nurse Ellie, Tony Jayawardena as Winston Churchill and Doctor Dain, Rhodri Meilir as David Bevan, Ashley Mejri as Owen Thomas, Lee Mengo as Jack Stockton, and Sharon Small as Jennie Leel; along with ensemble members Michael Keane, Mark Matthews, and Sara Otung; and swing Mali O'Donnell. Mengo will play Nye Bevan at some performances.
Newly joining the company for the 2025 run will be Jason Hughes as Archie Lush and Joshua McCord as Councillor Williams, ensemble member Hannah McPake, and swing Gareth Tempest. Additional casting—by Alastair Coomer, Chloe Blake, and Martin Poile—is to be announced.
Norris' creative team includes set designer Vicki Mortimer, costume designer Kinnetia Isidore, lighting designer Paule Constable, co-choreographers Steven Hoggett and Jess Williams, composer Will Stuart, sound designer Donato Wharton, and projection designer Jon Driscoll. Francesca Goodridge is co-directing this revival run.
