The Netflix series The Sandman, based on the comic book series by Neil Gaiman, premiered its teaser trailer as part of the streamer's Geeked Week 2022 events. The video gave a first look at Broadway actor Tom Sturridge and Hedwig and the Angry Inch national tour's Mason Alexander Park in their roles. Watch the teaser trailer above.
The series is blend of myth and dark fantasy, and follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the mistakes he's made during his vast existence. Sturridge, last seen on Broadway in Sea Wall/A Life, plays Dream of the Endless, and Park plays Desire.
The short trailer introduces many of these new-to-screen characters, and sets the highly-anticipated release date, August 5.
The cast also stars Gwendolyn Christie as Lucifer, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Asim Chaudhry as Cain and Abel, Charles Dance as Roderick Burgess, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Donna Preston as Despair, Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, Joely Richardson as Ethel Cripps, David Thewlis as John Dee, Kyo Ra as Rose Walker, Razane Jammal as Lyta Hall, Sandra James-Young as Unity Kinkaid, Stephen Fry as Gilbert, and Patton Oswalt as Matthew.
John Cameron Mitchell, from Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch, is expected to portray the character Hal.
The creative team is led by Gaiman, who serves as the executive producer and co-writer, along with David S. Goyer and show runner Allan Heinberg, with production by Warner Bros.
