In preparation for its return to New York, the national tour of Elf the Musical visited the Empire State Building December 13. The musical, which features Cheers star George Wendt as Santa, plays the Theater at Madison Square Garden December 13–29.
Elf features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by the late Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone).
The stage musical version of Elf premiered on Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in 2010, where it returned for an encore holiday run in 2012. A touring production previously played the Theater at Madison Square Garden in 2015. The property was also adapted into a 40-minute stop-animation television musical special for NBC in 2014.
