After stepping back into the Broadway spotlight in Waitress January 16, Sara Bareilles has extended her limited engagement at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. The singer-songwriter, who earned Tony and Grammy nominations for her score to the show, will continue in the role of Jenna through March 11 (instead of the previously announced February 25).
Bareilles shares the stage for the first part of her run with friend and collaborator Jason Mraz; the Grammy winner stepped into the show as Dr. Pomatter November 3. While he was initially slated to appear in the musical through January 14 only, he will now star opposite Bareilles through February 11. Original cast member Drew Gehling will return as Pomatter beginning February 13.
When speaking to Playbill last year prior to her first stint in the Diane Paulus-helmed production, Bareilles said, “As a songwriter and an artist, I’m performing these songs a little bit from the perspective of ‘Let me share with you what I’ve already figured out.’ This is just a slightly different perspective where you’re alongside your audience, and you can’t get ahead of the thought. That’s been a shift for me—and actually—a really welcomed one.” The current cast also features Tony nominee Christopher Fitzgerald as Ogie, Joe Tippett as Earl, Eric Anderson as Cal, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Becky, Caitlin Houlahan as Dawn, and Dakin Matthews, who fills in temporarily for Tony winner John Cullum as Joe.
