Washington, D.C.'s Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company has named Reggie D. White its new artistic director, with his tenure set to begin in early spring 2026. White will become only the third person to lead the company in its 46-year history, following Founding Artistic Director Howard Shalwitz and predecessor Maria Manuela Goyanes.
White is a director, actor, playwright, and educator who comes to Woolly Mammoth after serving as senior director of artistic strategy and impact at Arena Stage, also in D.C. He made his Broadway debut in 2019, in the acting company of The Inheritance.
"[W]hat makes Reggie the right leader for this moment goes beyond his artistic accomplishments," say Managing Director Kimberly E. Douglas and Board President Kaiti Saunders in a joint statement. "He leads with courage. With curiosity. With a radical belief in the power of community. He embraces risk as a pathway to rigor. He champions stories that disrupt, challenge, provoke, and ultimately expand what’s possible onstage and off."
White's appointment puts the theatre in new hands as Goyanes departs to lead Lincoln Center Theater's LCT3.
