Second Stage Theater will conclude its 46th season with the New York premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner Donald Margulies’ (Dinner with Friends, Collected Stories) Lunar Eclipse, directed by Drama League Award winner Kate Whoriskey (Clyde’s, Sweat). The title was originally scheduled to premiere last season, but was postponed.

Starring Tony winner Reed Birney (Mass, The Humans) and Drama Desk nominee Lisa Emery (OzarkA Kind of Alaska), Lunar Eclipse will begin previews May 14, and officially open June 3 at The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center.

The play, which deals with the fragility of memory, centers on a long-married couple on a hot summer night, sipping bourbon and reminiscing at they wait for a lunar eclipse to appear over their Kentucky farm. As the seven stages of the celestial phenomenon unfold, secrets are revealed as the couple realize that, many years down the line, they are still a mystery to each other.

Lunar Eclipse will feature scenic design by Walt Spangler, costume design by Jennifer Moeller, lighting design by Amith Chandrashaker, sound design by Sinan Refik Zafar, video design by S. Katy Tucker, and original music by Grace Mclean.
