The Public Theater celebrated the official opening of the American premiere of David Ireland’s Cyprus Avenue June 25. The co-production from Dublin's Abbey Theatre and London's Royal Court is directed by Vicky Featherstone and features Stephen Rea reprising his starring role.
In Cyprus Avenue, Eric Miller (Rea) is a "non-negotiably British" Belfast Unionist who sees an uncanny likeness between his new-born granddaughter and the Irish republican leader, Gerry Adams. As his grasp on reality begins to unravel, a lifetime of ingrained prejudice and unsettled identity pushes him to the edge.
Also returning to the production from the London run are Chris Corrigan and Amy Molloy, along with new cast members Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo and Andrea Irvine.
