Two-time Tony Award-winning actor Phyllis Newman will host the third annual Breathless on Broadway, a benefit for Pulmonary Hypertension (PH), June 5 at Sardi’s Restaurant in Times Square.

Lined up to perform at the event are Max von Essen (An American in Paris, Evita), Giuseppe Bausilio (Hello, Dolly!), Kevin Massey (A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love & Murder), T. Oliver Reid (Mary Poppins), Damon Gillespie (Newsies), Iain Young (Newsies), Laurissa “Lala” Romain, (South Pacific), and Katie Micha (Gypsy).

Newman won the 1962 Tony Award as Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for Subways Are for Sleeping, which had lyrics co-written by her late husband, Adolph Green. She was standby for Judy Holiday in Bells Are Ringing, and replaced Barbara Harris in The Apple Tree. She earned a second Tony Award nomination in 1987 for her performance in the Neil Simon play Broadway Bound. In recent years she has focused on fundraising, and the Phyllis Newman Womens Health Initiative is named for her. Her work earned her the 2009 Isabelle Stevenson Award from the Tony Awards. The June 5 concert will mark the first time Newman has publicly spoken about her own battle with PH.

The event is co-hosted by Les Misérables and Nurse Jackie alumnus Zach Rand, along with siblings Liv, Ava, and Elijah in honor of their late sister, Chloe.

Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) is described as “a rare, complex and chronic lung disease,” for which there is currently no cure. The benefit evening includes a red carpet reception, dinner, and the show.

Tickets can be ordered at at Breathlessonbroadway.com. Sardis is located at 234 W. 44th Street in Manhattan. The red carpet reception begins at 5:30 PM.
