CHICAGO -- An opera epic deserves an operatic set. Making its Chicago premiere at the Civic Opera House (it has previously played the Auditorium Theatre), Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera opens Mar. 22 for a 12-week engagement.
This return of the masked crusader stars Ron Bohmer, last seen in Chicago in Sunset Boulevard. Marie Danvers plays the Phantom's protegee, Christine, and Jason Pebworth is his rival, Raoul. They will all be privileged to perform in the same temple where Marie Callas made her American debut -- at the then-home of Lyric Opera of Chicago -- in 1954.
