LuPone is performing as part of the concert series that will also feature the Bill Friselll Trio Sept. 24 and cellist Yo-Yo Ma and The Knights Sept. 26. While LuPone and Ma are not scheduled to perform together, the two previously united for a concert with the Boston Pops in which Ma accompanied LuPone on John Bucchino's "Unexpressed."
The Gypsy In My Soul is the latest solo concert from two-time Tony Award and Olivier winner LuPone. The evening draws from her lengthy stage career, as well as highlights from her concerts including Patti LuPone Live; Matters of the Heart; Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda; and her album "The Lady With the Torch."
Tony Award winner Scott Wittman (Hairspray), who also collaborated with LuPone on her other solo evenings, conceived and directed Gypsy In My Soul, which has musical direction by Joseph Thalken and arrangements by Thalken and Jonathan Tunick.
Most recently seen in the Arthur Laurents-helmed revival of Gypsy, LuPone has starred in the world premieres of Sunset Boulevard and Les Miserables, as well as productions of Evita, Anything Goes, Oliver!, Working, The Old Neighborhood, Master Class, The Cradle Will Rock, Sweeney Todd and Pal Joey. She will return to Broadway this October in the world-premiere musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.
