Born Sleeping, a new play from Concord Theatricals Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival winner Patrick Flynn, held a public reading in the Washington, D.C. area September 28, directed by Jenna Place.
The work, a memory play, follows a woman struggling with her own decision to have children after her best friend's first pregnancy ends with a stillbirth.
"This is the first public reading of this piece, which is always exciting" says Flynn. "The play has a very complicated and circular structure designed to reflect the way our actual memory works, so audience feedback is crucial to its development. We also need to make sure the laughs are there, and only an audience can tell you that."
Featured in the cast were Christopher Bloch, Kurt Boehm, Kari Ginsburg, Noah Israel, Julia Klavans, Alina Collins Maldonaldo, Mary Myers, and Miranda Pepin.
Flynn's The Ferberizing of Coral was a winner of the Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival in 2018, following a debut at the 2016 DC Source Festival. The play became a short film earlier this year starring Theo Stockman (American Psycho, American Idiot) and Mitzi Akaha (Chaperone).
