The York Theatre’s Winter 2017 Musicals in Mufti series of readings continues February 11–19 with the 1972 revue Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill: A Musical Voyage.

Directed by Pamela Hunt and with music direction by Eric Svejcar, the five-member cast will feature Karl Josef Co (The Unsinkable Molly Brown), Rachel de Benedet (Catch Me If You Can), Michael Halling (A Tale of Two Cities), Meghan Picerno (Candide at New York City Opera), and Brian Charles Rooney (The Threepenny Opera).

The show, which traces Weill’s life and career from Weimar Germany through Nazi Germany, Paris, and New York, will be presented as the second in the 2017 Musicals in Mufti series hosted by the Off-Broadway York Theatre Company. Opening night will be February 12. Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill originally bowed at the Theatre de Lys (now the Lucille Lortel Theatre) on October 1, 1972, and ran 152 performances.

Using text and format by Gene Lerner, the show highlights songs with lyrics by Maxwell Anderson, Marc Blitzstein, Bertolt Brecht, Jacques Deval, Michael Feingold, Ira Gershwin, Paul Green, Langston Hughes, Alan Jay Lerner, Ogden Nash, George Tabori, and Arnold Weinstein.

The Winter 2017 Musicals in Mufti series began with Milk and Honey, and is scheduled to conclude with Dear World, February 25–March 5.
