With the Oct. 30 ceremony only weeks away, Los Angeles' Ovation Awards have announced the creative team dedicated to putting the night together. Michael Michetti, a double Ovation winner for his A Midsummer Night's Dream, directs the event with Eileen T'Kaye and Farrell Hirsch as executive producers and Michael Seel as producer.
An actress (currently in Dandelion Wine at the Colony Theatre) and producer, T'Kaye worked with Michetti on Dream and the Coast Playhouse's Shiva Arms, 1999's Ovation winner for Best World Premiere. Hirsch, who currently serves as producer on an Off-Broadway show and the upcoming Rockne at Chicago's Apollo Theatre, is in his seventh season of producing the Ovations, his second as an executive producer. Seel's producing credits include The Gay 90's Musical, Florinda, Zastrozzi and On the Open Road.
The Ovation nominations were announced Sept. 25 at the new Colony Theatre. The Ovations themselves will be awarded Oct. 30 at the Ahmanson Theatre. First established by the Theatre League Alliance of Southern California in 1989, these prizes are given in 26 categories, separated in all cases, except acting, directing, choreography and writing, into large and intimate theatre divisions.
Writer and performer Maripat Donovan, in full Late Night Catechism ensemblage, will host the ceremony. Donovan co-wrote the show in stars in the L.A. production, currently at the Coronet Theatre. Tickets to the Ovations can be purchased by calling (213) 614-0556 ext. 24 or by visiting the web at http://www.theatrela.org. The Colony is located at 555 North Third Street in Burbank. Food and drinks will be served.

The Ovation's special awards will honor Disney and Michael Eisner, and actor Ray Stricklyn. Eisner and company receive the James A. Doolittle Award for Outstanding Leadership in Theatre for their musical productions Aida, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. Stricklyn garners the Career Achievement Award for his work in Southern California, which would eventually include Broadway where he portrayed Tennessee Williams in Confessions of a Nightingale.
