An invitation-only reading of American Game, a new musical set in a small American town defined by patriotism, and the rising tension of the Vietnam War, will be held in Manhattan January 30.
Featuring a book by Ben Heintz and Lana Scott Stringer and a score by Heintz, the performance will be directed by Miranda Cornell (Indian Princesses).
The cast will feature Max Chernin (Parade), Savy Jackson (Bad Cinderella), Charlie Webb (The Notebook), John Patrick Collins (The Outsiders), Felix Torrez-Ponce (Sweeney Todd), Jill Paice (An American in Paris), Ed Watts (Scandalous), Davis Wayne (The Outsiders), Adi Roy (Aladdin), Tanner Callicutt (Parade), Hailey Hyde (The Outsiders), and Sherz Aletaha (Merrily We Roll Along) with stage directions read by Isuri Wijesundara. Casting is by Xavier Rubiano and Frankie Ramirez of TRC Casting.
Set in 1970s Texas, the new musical tells a two-pronged tale: the rise to power of a man called Radiohost, a manipulative personification of the American Institution, and the simultaneous collapse of an American family as they wrestle with the violent and dynamic consequences of their own “American Dream.”
The creative team also includes music director Stephen Murphy, stage manager Kyra Bowie, associate director Amiah McGinty, sound designer Connor Wang, associate sound designer Jaechelle Johnson, and production assistants Tommy Pegan and David Karpinski.
The New York presentation follows a summer 2025 developmental residency with Houston's Theatre Under the Stars.
American Game is produced by Zachary Hausman, Jennifer O’Grady, and Maximilian Tabet for Sure As The Tide Productions.
