Messina will also direct the 8 PM industry reading, which is presented by the Bleecker Street Theater Company. The reading is being held in anticipation of future regional productions of the play, which producers characterize as Broadway-bound.
In addition to Cantone (Assassins, "Sex and the City"), Macchio (How to Succeed…, "Karate Kid") and Doherty ("90210," "Heathers"), the reading will feature Valerie Smaldone (Spalding Gray: Stories Left to Tell), Adam Trese, Gina Ferranti, John Barbieri and Kendra Jain.
According to producers, "A Room of My Own is a two-act play that revolves around a playwright's Herculean attempt to tell his story of growing up in a tiny studio apartment inside a crumbling five-flight-walk-up on Thompson Street in Greenwich Village with his certifiably insane Italian-American family."
Ted Kurdyla, Robert Nicotra and Josselyne Herman-Saccio produce the reading. Messina's plays include Cirque Jacqueline, Merging, Homeland and Mercury: The Afterlife and Times of a Rock God. He has penned the screenplay "They're Just My Friends."
