Marie and Rosetta will play London's West End later this year.

Starring Olivier winner Beverley Knight (The Drifters Girl) as the legendary singer, songwriter, and guitarist Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Ntombizodwa Ndlovu as Marie Knight, Rosetta’s musical partner, the production will run February 28-April 11, 2026, at the @sohoplace Theatre. Opening night is set for March 6, 2026.

Centering on Tharpe and her protégé, Marie Knight, the play was written by George Brant (Grounded). Directed by Monique Touko (The Boy at the Back of the Class), the play-with-music features a mixture of gospel and blues hits to fill in the dramatic portrait.

Said Knight, “Sister Rosetta Tharpe and her legacy had long been overlooked in music history. She deserves her place as one of the architects of rock ‘n’ roll, a Gospel singing, guitar shredding heroine who helped to shape popular music as we know it today. I’m so proud that we get to tell her story and that of her co collaborator Marie Knight played by the incredibly talented Ntombizodwa Ndlovu who makes her debut in the West End. She is a star in the making!”

Touko will lead a creative team that includes costume designer Jodie-Simone Howe, movement director Kloé Dean, sound designer Tony Gayle, intimacy director Bethan Clark, voice and dialect coach Joel Trill, music director and guitarist Shirley Teteh, and associate director Jordi M. Carter.
