Kenny Leon’s revival of Fences, starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, opened on Broadway at the Cort Theatre April 26, 2010. August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama played a limited engagement, with Davis and Washington both winning Tony Awards for their performances and the production winning for Best Revival.
The duo later went on to star in the 2016 film adaptation of Fences, reprising their roles as Troy and Rose, garnering Davis an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting for her performance.
Fences tells the story of Troy Maxson (Washington), a former baseball player in the Negro Leagues. When Troy comes home with the baby he fathered with another woman, his wife (Davis) is forced to reevaluate their marriage and life.
