The world premiere of Rock and Roll Man: The Alan Freed Story began performances at Bucks County Playhouse September 12. The production, which stars Tony nominee Alan Campbell and Emmy nominee George Wendt, is scheduled to run through October 1 in New Hope Pennsylvania.
The musical uncovers the true story of Alan Freed, the 1950s American disc jockey who discovered music that all of America wanted to hear, though no radio station would pay it. The show features an original score by Gary Kupper, who also wrote the book alongside Larry Marshak and Rose Caiola.

Filmed in 2023, the one-night-only event featured Brian Stokes Mitchell, Audra McDonald, Peter Friedman, and more from the Ahrens and Flaherty musical's original cast.
Surrounded by period-accurate, 19th-century holiday decorations lit via candlelight, the 70-minute production is based on Dickens' own script of the classic.
