Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has introduced the latest episode of the The West Wing Weekly podcast with an original rap.
The West Wing Weekly releases an episode each week corresponding to a single episode of the hit television series created by writer and Outer Critics Circle winner Aaron Sorkin.
Hosts Joshua Malina (a former West Wing cast member) and Hrishikesh Hirway break down the long-running television show. Lin-Manuel Miranda is a noted fanatic of the show. (After his final curtain call as the title character in Hamilton, the orchestra played him off to the tune of the West Wing theme song.)
On January 16, the podcast uploaded an original rap titled “What’s Next?” a famed –ism of fictional President Bartlett, played by Martin Sheen. Spliced with sound bites from Bartlett, Miranda raps about the characters and plot lines to make any fan of the show giddy.
He begins:
Did you get the popcorn the filibuster is in
I’m Toby Ziegler with the drop-in, what kinda day has it been?
It’s Lin speaking the truth—Agent Butterfield level detail—
On this track, while you got that black Vera Wang retail
To listen to the full rap, set to a beat by Hirway, listen to the West Wing Weekly on iTunes (the clean version here; the original explicit version here) and watch the video below:
No word if Miranda will be an official guest on the podcast.
