Fresh off the worldwide success of Black Panther, stars Letitia Wright and Danai Gurira are teaming up again—this time on a U.K. stage.
Wright will take on the leading role of Jekesai/Ester in actor-writer Gurira's acclaimed play The Convert, set for a run at the Young Vic later this year. Directed by Ola Ince, the play (which had its world premiere in 2012) is about a young woman in Rhodesia who converts to Catholicism in the late 19th century. The show begins previews December 7.
Joining her are Paapa Essiedu (RSC Hamlet) as Chilford and Ivanno Jeremiah (Humans) as Chancellor, as well as Jude Akuwudike as Uncle; Rudolphe Mdlongwa as Tamba; and Pam Nomvete as Mai Tamba. The casting of the role of Prudence will be announced at a later date.
Gurira is now best-known for her role on The Walking Dead, but she's also an acclaimed playwright; her 2009 play Eclipsed earned five Tony nominations, including Best Play.
