Choderlos de Laclos’ novel of sex, intrigue, and betrayal in pre-revolutionary France produced a scandal when it was first published in 1782. Hampton's stage adaption, which has been produced on Broadway twice previously, in 1987 and 2008, won both the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Play when it premiered in a production under the auspices of the RSC. Rourke's new production marks the play's 30-year revival. The London production was nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Revival.

Hampton received an Academy Award for the movie adaptation, Dangerous Liaisons.

In the play, former lovers the Marquise de Merteuil (McTeer) and Vicomte de Valmont (Schreiber) now compete in games of seduction and revenge. Merteuil incites Valmont to corrupt the innocent Cécile Volanges before her wedding night, but Valmont has targeted the peerlessly virtuous and beautiful Madame de Tourvel. While these merciless aristocrats toy with others' hearts and reputations, their own may prove more fragile than they supposed.

Watch Sørensen discuss her Pitch Perfect 2 role.
