It begins performances at Chiswick's Tabard Theatre Feb. 9, 2011, prior to an official opening Feb. 11, for a run through March 5.
Samuels will star alongside Christopher Pym. Samuels came third in the finale of "Over the Rainbow," the TV contest to find an actress by public vote to star in the forthcoming London production of The Wizard Of Oz at the London Palladium. The actors will play Cathy, a struggling actress, and Jamie, a rising novelist, respectively, and the musical charts their five-year relationship. It is told from two angles: Cathy's story travels backwards in time, from the end of their marriage to when they first met, and Jamie's story traces the relationship from the beginning to its conclusion. The show was originally produced at Northlight Theatre in Skokie, IL, in 2001, and subsequently Off-Broadway in 2002, where it won the Drama Desk Award for outstanding music and lyrics. It received its UK premiere at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2006.
The production is directed by Drew Baker (whose previous credits include directing Brown's Songs for a New World at London's New Players Theatre), with musical direction by Lee Freeman and design by Colin Mayes. It is produced by Tony Green and Dayle James.
