Fans of the Bridgerton book series will get a spoonful of sugar when Julie Andrews lends her voice as mysterious narrator Lady Whistledown in the upcoming Netflix adaptation.
Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton eight-book series follows a high class family’s search for love in the 19th Century. The Oscar-winning Mary Poppins star will play the anonymous gossip columnist, whose salacious stories send the Bridgerton family into a frenzy.
The currently untitled television adaptation is created by Scandal veteran Chris Van Dusen. It is one of eight shows ordered last year as part of Shonda Rhimes’ deal with Netflix.
Andrews has appeared on the streaming service before with Julie’s Greenroom, which she co-created with her daughter. She will also release her second memoir, titled Home: A Memoir of My Early Years, this fall.
Last season, Rhimes was a producer on the Broadway premiere of American Son, which will also soon head to Netflix with stars Kerry Washington and Steven Pasquale.
