Tony-winning Broadway star Idina Menzel has joined the cast of the upcoming film Uncut Gems.
According to Deadline, Menzel will star as the wife of a NYC diamond district jewelry store owner with a gambling addiction and multiple girlfriends, played by Adam Sandler. The film features a screenplay by Josh and Ben Safdie and Ronald Bronstein.
Joining Menzel and Sandler in the cast are Eric Bogosian, who has appeared on Broadway in Time Stands Still and wrote 2007's Talk Radio; Judd Hirsch, a two-time Tony winner for his performances in I'm Not Rappaport and Conversations with my Father; and Atlanta star Lakeith Stanfield.
Production is expected to begin later this year. A24 has picked up the film for U.S. distribution, while Netflix has retained the rights for international markets.
Scott Rudin and Eli Bush will produce along with Elara Pictures' Sebastian Bear-McClard and Oscar Boyson. Martin Scorcese and Emma Tillinger Koskoff are executive producers.
Menzel, who recently returned to the stage in Off-Broadway's Skintight, will also be heard on screen as the voice of Elsa in the upcoming Frozen 2, a return to her role from Disney's 2013 animated musical.
Her sixth solo album, idina:live, will be released October 5, ahead of a concert tour with recording artist and The Great Comet star Josh Groban.
