Video Hear Alex Newell Sing 'Rhythm of My Heart' from Trans-Positive Animated Musical Pacemaker

The Oscar-qualified musical short premiered at Outfest earlier this year.

Tony winner Alex Newell is coming back to our screens—at least in voice form.

Newell stars in Pacemaker, a trans-positive Oscar-qualified animated musical short film. Written, co-directed, and composed by two-time Emmy nominee and Grammy-winning composer Christopher Lennertz, the musical tells the story of a grandfather's hopeful acceptance of his trans grandson. Lennertz was inspired to write the piece by his trans son, Tobi, who also consulted on the film's story.

Check out a sneak peek of Newell performing the song "Rhythm Of My Heart" in the video above.

The song is produced by Lawrence (Uptown Funk, 24k Magic) and Davy Nathan (Toni Braxton), with orchestrations by Ella Feingold (Silk Sonic). It was recorded with the Philharmonia orchestra at Abbey Road studios in London.

In addition to Newell, the short features multi-Grammy Award winner Lawrence, with ‘Nimona’s ND Stevenson serving as executive producer. Brian Vincent Rhodes (Spies in Disguise, Nimona) co-directs the film with Lennertz.

The film is produced by animation veterans Darlene Caamaño Loquet (The Bling Ring, A Loud House Christmas) and Magdiela Hermida Duhamel (Inside Out 2, Marvel's What If...?). Information on a release to the general public is forthcoming.
