After leaving London, New York, and Melbourne spellbound (San Francisco and Hamburg on deck), Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will head to Canada. The Tony- and Olivier Award-winning play will have its Canadian premiere at Toronto’s Ed Mirvish Theatre in fall 2020.
Casting and exact performance dates will be announced later.
Original producers Sonia Friedman, Colin Callender, and J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter Theatrical Productions will team up with Canadian producer David Mirvish for the new engagement. "Toronto, with its rich history of culture and the arts, is the perfect city in which to stage our magical production in Canada," said Friedman and Callender. The two also confirmed that the venue will be specially refurbished for the show's run.
After premiering in London's West End in 2016, the play, featuring a script by Jack Thorne and based on an original story by Thorne, director John Tiffany, and series creator Rowling, opened on Broadway in April last year, going on to win six Tony Awards including Best Play.
