Roundabout Theatre Company has announced that managing director Harold Wolpert will depart in October to pursue new opportunities, but will stay on as a consultant through mid-2017.
Wolpert is a three-time Tony Award winner who joined Roundabout in 2005 following five years as general manager at Manhattan Theatre Club. During his career, he has led all management, finance, administration, production, marketing, operations and labor relations for some of the largest and most-recognized not-for-profit theatre companies in the country.
“Roundabout Theater Company provided an extraordinarily complex and rewarding professional opportunity. I’m so proud of the significant progress we’ve achieved at Roundabout, as moving companies forward is quite rewarding for me,” Wolpert said in a press statement. “I am grateful to Todd (Haimes) and our wonderful board for their excellent leadership, and...I feel confident about my departure now, as I am certain that Roundabout faces a bright and secure future and I will always feel honored to have been a part of this special company.”

Artistic director Haimes commented that Wolpert has been a “truly extraordinary business partner.”
“His management and leadership skills have allowed the theater to grow and thrive over the past decade, culminating in the enormous success of our current 50th anniversary season,“ he continued. “He was integral in the success of the renovation and opening of the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, the opening of Roundabout Underground and three national tours produced exclusively by Roundabout. I am thankful to Harold for agreeing to work in a consulting capacity following his departure. I will miss him both personally and professionally and wish him well in his future endeavors. I am sure he will be an asset in his next role.”
Wolpert's next move has not yet been announced, along with Roundabout's plans for the next managing director.
