The Ferryman proved bigger is (sometimes) better June 9 taking home four Tony Awards including Best Play. Before earning its accolades, however, the 21-person family epic welcomed a swarm of theatregoers seemingly in the know. In the week ending on Tony Sunday, the Jez Butterworth play took in $618,056—its highest gross since February.
The show saw a relative boost in the size of its house as well, playing to 75.8 percent capacity. Expect both numbers to increase in its final few weeks (the play closes July 7 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre).
Most productions celebrated similar upticks, including the Glenda Jackson-led King Lear (the revival played its final week up over $100,000 from the week before), Mean Girls (which welcomed new star Reneé Rapp over the weekend), and the musical comedy Beetlejuice.
