Get an inside look at the star-studded Sing Out For Freedom concert, which brought together Broadway favorites and beloved members of the LGBTQ+ community November 13 at the NYU Skirball Center. Amber Ruffin hosted this year's concert, which highlighted the theme "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Fabulous." The event honored NYCLU’s work to protect all New Yorkers from discrimination, namely their work with New Yorkers for Equal Rights to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and work with the ACLU Drag Defense Fund to defend LGBTQ+ Rights.
Performers and presenters included Peppermint, Michelle Buteau, Alexis Michelle, Hayley Kiyoko, Cheyenne Jackson, Taylor Iman Jones, Pia Toscano, VINCINT, Liana Stampur, and more. Peppermint was presented with The Michael Friedman Freedom Award.
Sing Out For Freedom was created to spotlight social injustices and civil rights issues through unforgettable, curated nights of the performing arts. The benefit concert was co-founded by Liana Stampur and Erich Bergen, along with NYCLU Executive Director Donna Lieberman. Proceeds benefit the work of the NYCLU and the ACLU.
