Music superstars Gloria and Emilio Estefan will be special guests on season three of the CW’s Jane the Virgin. The duo will play themselves on the third episode of the new season, which begins October 17. In the episode story, the Estefans are best friends of telenovela star Rogelio, played by Jaime Camil.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Rogelio asks his best buds to adapt a Latin telenovela for American audiences. The Estefans have shown, in real life, that they are able to take on adaptations as their own life story was adapted for the stage by Alexander Dinelaris into the bio-musical On Your Feet!
The Estefans join a slew of music icons who have appeared on the show, and a theatrical veteran, too, as Oscar winner Rita Moreno plays the titular Jane’s abuela. (Moreno won an Academy Awards for her supporting role as Maria in the film version of West Side Story.) Camil also has dipped his toe in the theatre, previously taking on the role of Billy Flynn in Broadway’s Chicago.
