The F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald biomusical The Fitzgeralds of St. Paul—featuring a book, music, and lyrics by Christie Baugher—is readying a concept album. To commemorate F. Scott's birthday today, get a first listen to a medley of the songs in the music video above.
The two-actor chamber musical centers on the marriage of the Great Gatsby author and his wife, Zelda, as they struggle with addiction, mental illness, and jealousy. The music video features Jewell Wilson Bridges as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Tiffany Topol as Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald, along with Paul Hoey as the Bartender.
The concept album will feature a cast of Broadway favorites, with each song sung by a different artist. Casting is to be announced. The creators are currently crowd funding for the project on Kickstarter.
Along with the upcoming concept album, a preview production is planned for Buffalo, New York's Irish Classical Theatre Company this fall, with performances set to run November 8-24. Danny Mefford (Fun Home) is directing and choreographing, with Matt Castle serving as music supervisor. Castle also penned the orchestrations along with producer Frank Galgano. Anne Kelly is also producing.
"Crafting a musical inspired by the fascinating, beautiful, infuriating relationship of these two people has been one of the great privileges of my life," says Baugher in a statement. "Fitzgeralds has been a decade in the making, and I’ve been so fortunate to collaborate with some of the best and brightest minds and hearts in the business in bringing it to life. I’m thrilled to be partnering with Brainstorm on this next step of the journey, and I couldn’t be more excited for audiences to finally get to see what we’ve been working on."
The music video features direction and editing by Sarah Wilson Thacker, and music production by Brainstorm Theatrics. Elise Laplante produced, with Baugher, Kelly, and Thacker serving as executive producers.
