Hi all. There is some news I want to share with you in hopes that if you or any woman you know is dealing with this that...Posted by Rita Wilson on Tuesday, April 14, 2015
Wilson explained that she had an underlying condition of LCIS (lobular carcinoma in situ), which has been monitored through yearly mammograms and breast MRIs. After two recent surgical breast biopsies, PLCIS (pleomorphic carcinoma in situ) was discovered, but she was "relieved when the pathology showed no cancer." However, she was encouraged to get a second opinion, and a different pathologist found invasive lobular carcinoma.
She added, "I feel blessed to have a loving, supportive husband, family, friends and doctors and that I am the beneficiary of advances in the field of breast cancer and reconstruction. I am getting better every day and look forward to renewed health. I hope this will encourage others to get a second opinion and to trust their instincts if something doesn't 'feel' right."
Wilson plays the role of Brenda Drexel — wife of David's Norman Drexel — in Fish in the Dark.
A production representative issued a previous statment to Playbill.com that reads, "Everyone at Fish in the Dark wishes Rita a speedy and healthy recovery, and looks forward to having her back on stage at the Cort on May 5."
