Performances begin January 9 at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn for the American premiere of Enda Walsh’s drama Ballyturk. The “high-octane” production arrives Off-Broadway following an acclaimed run at Dublin’s Abbey Theatre in 2017.
In Ballyturk, the lives of two men, simply named One and Two, unravel quickly over the course of 90 minutes. Outside the room's walls, the rural Irish town of Ballyturk may or may not exist.
Mikel Murfi, Tadhg Murphy, and Olwen Fouéré star in the American premiere, directed by Walsh. The production is co-presented by Landmark Productions and Galway International Arts Festival, where Ballyturk had its world premiere in 2014.
The staging features costumes and set design by Jamie Vartan, lighting design by Adam Silverman, sound design by Helen Atkinson, and original music by Teho Teardo.
Walsh's plays include Delirium, Penelope, Chatroom, The Small Things, The Twits, Arlington, and Disco Pigs, which is currently running Off-Broadway in a 20th anniversary staging from Tara Finney Productions and Irish Repertory Theatre.
Also a musical book writer and librettist, Walsh is a Tony winner for the musical Once. He wrote the opera The Last Hotel and co-wrote the acclaimed musical Lazarus with the late David Bowie.
