Lea DeLaria will lace up her skates with fellow cast members Eric Michael Gillett, Renee Bang Allen, Ashlie Atkinson, Sylvia Roldan Dohi, Ruben Flores, Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer, Antwayn Hopper, Sean Jenness, Eric William Morris, Michelle M. Robinson and David Shih.
Roller Derby features a score by Tony nominee Harold Wheeler and the late John Braden with book and lyrics by Barry Arnold. Five-time Tony nominee Donald McKayle directs and choreographs the 1970's set musical playing the Ailey Citigroup Theater through Sept. 27.
Also making contact on Sept. 20 are Rob Evan and Amy Bodnar, who headline Bruce Kimmel's sci-fi musical The Brain From Planet X for the New York Musical Theatre Festival. Kimmel provides music and lyrics for the work, with a book by David Wechter.
Benjamin Clark, Merrill Grant, Chad Harlow, Joe Jackson, Naomi Kakuk, Cason Murphy, Denise Payne, Barry Pearl, Alet Taylor, Erin Webley and Steve Wenslawski complete the cast for the alien invasion musical playing the Acorn Theatre through Sept. 30.
Though they didn't make the cut for the Grease revival this season, "You're The One That I Want" contestants Austin Miller and Kate Rockwell star in Tully (In No Particular Order), penned by Joshua William Gelb and Stephanie Johnstone. Featured in the cast are Adam Hose, Autumn Hurlbert, David McGee and Evan Jay Newman. Gelb directs Tully at the Sage Theater, which runs through Sept. 28. The Australian import The Good Fight makes its U.S. premiere Sept. 20 on the stage of the Julia Miles Theater, featuring a cast of students from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. The Down Under boxing-match musical is penned by the late Nick Enright — an Academy Award nominee for his screenplay for "Lorenzo's Oil" and the book writer for The Boy from Oz — with a score by David King.
Aussies Chrystal De Grussa, Gemma-Ashley Kaplan, Kathryn Sgroi, Suzanne Mathers, Stephanie Morrison, Vanessa Raspa, Matthew McFarlane, Bradley Carroll, Gareth Keegan, Keane Fletcher, Brent Dolahenty, Stuart Fisher, Elizabeth Styles, Lachlan Gillespie, Caleb Rixon, Zack Curran, Bernard Angel and Eliza Anderson perform The Good Fight through Sept. 22.
Broadway baby Danielle Ferland stars alongside Emily Swallow and Jon Patrick Walker in the intimate cupid-tinged musical Like Love at the TBG Theater through Oct. 3. Like Love has book and lyrics by Barry Jay Kaplan, with a score by Lewis Flinn, who most recently supplied incidental music for Broadway's The Little Dog Laughed.
In addition to the NYMF productions, the Barnes and Noble at Lincoln Plaza will feature the panel discussion "Someone Else's Story: Partnering with a Librettist" Sept. 20. Peter Filichia moderates with writer and librettist teams Gary Adler, Kevin del Aguila & Michael Patrick Walker (Altar Boyz); Charlie Gilbert & Albert Innaurato (Gemini the Musical); and Michael Korie, lyricist for Grey Gardens; who will discuss their collaborative partnerships.
