This is the moment when Robert Cuccioli makes his directorial debut.
The darkly handsome actor who thrilled audiences as the original dual personality in Broadway's Jekyll & Hyde — singing the anthem, "This is the Moment" — will stage the Frank Wildhorn-Leslie Bricusse musical thriller at the Westchester Broadway Theatre Aug. 2-Nov. 24. The staging will be one of the first resident productions following the show's Broadway closing Jan. 7.
"I am thrilled to be making my directorial debut at a theatre as supportive and renowned as the Westchester Broadway Theatre," Cuccioli said in a statement. "I share a history with this theatre, and have a special place for it in my heart. I worked on many musicals here during my early years as an actor, which gave me the best training an actor could ask for. I love the show, and it's been a major part of my life for several years."
Cuccioli appeared in 900 performances of Jekyll & Hyde on Broadway and performed in the national tour.
He received a Drama Desk Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, and a Tony Award nomination for playing Dr. Jekyll and his drug-induced darker half, Mr. Hyde.
Cuccioli recently performed in the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival productions of Antony and Cleopatra and Enter the Guardsman. He and Enter the Guardsman later appeared Off-Broadway at the Dimson Theatre. His gigs at the Westchester Broadway Theatre included the title role in the New York premiere of the Maury Yeston Arthur Kopit Phantom, the longest-running musical in the Westchester Broadway Theatre's history.
