John Houseman Award-winning actor Hawkins recently played the role at Juilliard and will reprise his performance for the LATW run Nov. 17-21 at the Skirball Center under the direction of Obie Award-winning director Lou Bellamy.
As previously reported, the cast will also include Henry as Ruth Younger, Wesley as Beneatha Younger, Judyann Elder as Lena Younger, James Gleason as Karl Lindner, Noah Gray-Cabey as Travis Younger, Terrell Tilford as George Murchison and Mirron Willis as Joseph Asagai/Bobo.
Here's how LATW describes Lorraine Hansberry's Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning classic: "Living in a tenement apartment on the South Side of Chicago in the 1950s, the Younger family awaits an insurance payout that could make its dreams of a better life come true - but each member of the family has his or her own idea of how to use the money. The title of the play is inspired by a line in the poem 'Harlem: A Dream Deferred' by Langston Hughes."
All LATW productions are recorded and broadcast on LATW's nationally syndicated radio theatre series, "The Play's the Thing."
