Concertgebouw Orchestra Invites First Woman to the Podium
Marin Alsop will conduct Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra later this year, making her the first woman ever to lead the 116-year old orchestra, the Associated Press reports.
Alsop, the music director of England's Bournemouth Symphony and the former music director of the Colorado Symphony, will lead a program of music by Dmitri Shostakovich on June 8.
