Tony and Oscar nominee Colman Domingo has signed on to play Joe Jackson, father of the family of musical soul singers, in the upcoming biopic Michael, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film centers on the life and career of the most famous son from the Jackson family, which also includes pop singer Janet Jackson.
Joe Jackson began building his children's musical careers in the 1960s with the formation of the Motown group The Jackson Five. Michael Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson (son of Jermaine Jackson) will play the King of Pop in the film.
Scribe John Logan, a Tony winner for his play Red, will pen the screenplay, to be directed by Antoine Fuqua. The Lionsgate film is slated for release April 18, 2025.
Domingo is currently Oscar-nominated for his title role in the Netflix film Rustin and stars as Mister in the movie musical adaptation of The Color Purple. He received a Tony nomination for his performance in 2010's The Scottsboro Boys.
