Originally scheduled to run April 12, a CBS Early Show profile of Chekhov Theatre Ensemble artistic director Floyd Rumohr and other guests has been postponed. Producers at the network say the segment on Chekhov’s educational program, Stages of Learning, will run in the future.
As reported, the segment focuses on Chekhov’s work at Brooklyn’s PS 94, demonstrating the effectiveness of theatre training methods. Chekhov reports that a ten year old student is quoted during the special saying that, "Acting was like a tiny piece of the story living inside your soul."
Asked what acting did for his soul, the child replies, "Acting soothes the anger in my soul."
Joining Rumohr in the report are teaching artists Jon Shaver, Georgia Southern and fifth grade teacher Deirdre Keyes with her students.
