An Axemas Story, seen Off-Broadway in 2022 and 2023, will return to New York this holiday season with two invitation-only concert presentations at CAM Studios on W. 45th St.
Produced by Kyle Mazer of Cartwheel Theatricals and executive-produced by Mix and Match Productions, performances are scheduled for November 13 at noon and 3 PM.
Directed by Mackenna Goodrich, the cast will feature Jake Pedersen (Parade, Wicked), Gizel Jimenez (Warriors, Wicked), Jasmine Sharma (Twelfth Night), Alex Canty (Million Dollar Quartet), Collin Kilfeather (Tina), Charissa Bertels (A Christmas Story), Curry Whitmire (Kafkaesque), Jessica Kantorowitz (Run Bambi Run), and John Jeffords (Waitress, ACT of CT).
An Axemas Story—featuring a book by Charlie O’Leary, lyrics by Patrick Spencer, music by Anthony De Angelis, and music direction by Sara Linger—is described as "part Christmas special, part '80s slasher, and entirely unhinged."
The musical follows Grandpa, his granddaughter, and the year the trees of Tree Town mysteriously started disappearing. The holiday work is a send-up of capitalism, Christmas, and the religious right.
