Soho Rep has announced the cast and creative team for its upcoming production of Richard Maxwell’s Samara. Artistic director Sarah Benson will direct a cast which spans ages 14–88, and will include singer-songwriter Steve Earle in his Off-Broadway acting debut.
Grammy winner Earle has also composed the original score for the Soho Rep-commissioned work. Performances will begin April 4 ahead of an April 16 opening at the newly opened Mezzanine Theatre at the A.R.T./New York Theatres, located at 502 W 53rd Street, New York.
In Samara, a messenger sets out to collect a debt from a man he’s never met, friends attempt to make up for a mistake that can’t be undone, and strangers seek comfort wherever they can find it.
Rounding out the cast are Becca Blackwell, Vinie Burrows, Roy Faudree, Modesto Flako Jimenez, Matthew Korahais, Paul Lazar, and Jasper Newell. The company will also include musician Ivan Goff and a percussionist to be announced.
The creative team for Samara is made up of Louisa Thompson (sets), Junghyun Georgia Lee (costumes), Matt Frey (lights), and Palmer Hefferan (sound), George Hoffmann and Greg Kozatek (props masters), J. David Brimmer (fight choreography), Annie-B Parson (choreography), and Rachel K. Gross (production stage manager).
