Casting is complete for the Sheffield Theatres production of Githa Sowerby's Rutherford and Son, which will play the Crucible Lyceum Studio February 8–23, 2019, with an official opening February 12.
Caroline Steinbeis will direct a cast that includes Owen Teale as Rutherford, Esh Alladi as Richard, Laura Elphinstone as Janet, Brian Lonsdale as Martin, Marian McLoughlin as Ann, Ciarán Owens as John, Lizzie Roper as Mrs. Henderson, and Danusia Samal as Mary.
Set in 1912 in the Industrial North, Rutherford and Son concerns the tyrannical Rutherford, who has three grown children and not one qualified to take over his family-owned glassworks. Janet, John, and Richard have dreams of their own, but none can break free. Mary is different: Married into the family and with ambitions for her son, she’ll untangle the ties that bind.
