November 23 marks the 91st Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and Camp Broadway will make its tenth appearance as part of the festivities.
Camp Broadway, the “original” Broadway summer camp, will perform Irving Berlin’s “This Is a Great Country” in honor of U.S. military families. Directed by Brad Bradley (Annie Get Your Gun, Spamalot, Billy Elliott The Musical), the routine will feature 128 students from across the country. From 104 cities across the nation, these kids—ranging from ages nine to 16—represent immediate family of active duty military personnel, veterans, reservists, wounded warriors, and fallen heroes.
“Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is the perfect place and time to celebrate the important role that military families play in supporting our nations’ troops,” says Susan E. Lee, spokesperson for Camp Broadway. “On this national day of gratitude, Camp Broadway hopes that Macy’s 3.5 million spectators and 50 million viewers will join us in cheering for these talented young heroes who are called upon to make many personal sacrifices so that their parents, siblings, or other family members can serve and protect America.”
Camp Broadway was first established in 1995 as a way to make theatre accessible to youth and build self-esteem, presentation skills, and more. Held in New York with partner theatres in Atlanta, Buffalo, Greenville, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, Miami, Pittsburgh, San Antonio, Temple, and Washington Beach, Camp Broadway hosts educational workshops and arts programming year-round.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be broadcast on NBC November 23. Check your local listings.
